The Whirlpool of Life

She had rings on each finger,
All kinds of bracelets round her wrists,
And she sang with a voice
That bewitched me instantly.
She had eyes, opal eyes,
That fascinated me, fascinated me.
There was the oval of her femme fatale’s
Pale face which was fatal to me (repeat).
We met, we recognized each other.
We lost sight of each other and did so again,
We reunited, we warmed each other up,
Then we separated.
We each went our own way
In the whirlpool of life.
I saw her again one evening, hey, hey, hey
It had really been ages (repeat).
I recognized her by the sound of the banjos.
Her curious smile which I liked so much.
Her voice so fatal, her beautiful pale face
Moved me more than ever.
I got drunk just listening to her.
Alcohol helps one forget time.
I awoke with the odor
Of her kisses on my burning forehead (repeat).
We met, we recognized each other.
We lost sight of each other once and then again,
We reunited, we warmed each other up,
Then we separated.
We each went our own way
In the whirlpool of life.
I saw her again one evening, ah, la, la.
She fell into my arms.
When we met,
When we recognized each other,
Why lose sight of each other,
Lose sight of each other again.
Why did we separate?
So we both again were swept into
The whirlpool of life.
We went on turning
In each other’s embrace
In each other’s embrace.
