Annie: Modern Woman

Many parallels can be drawn between Melanie, as she exists at the beginning of the film, and Annie. Annie presents the first of two behavior options available to Melanie. With her independence and masculine coding, Annie represents what Melanie will become if she continues exhibiting her current gender roles.
