Conclusion

The character of Roger O. Thornhill exemplifies advertisement itself because he possesses all of its characteristics. His language and speech is constantly used towards manipulation and persuasiveness. He exemplifies the art of advertisement through his rhetoric and ability to transform into various roles and characters. The only commodity that rouses his desire is Eve Kendall, who also exemplifies characteristics of advertisement through the various roles she takes on. The entire film encompasses the traits of Thornhill because it serves as an advertisement of sorts and acknowledges its own theatrical aspects. North by Northwest takes on different roles as the action film, the love story, and the satirical film of our own consumer society.
