1950's Consumer Paradise

“In the consumer paradise that was America of the late 1950’s, advertising had become the epitome of language, and so billboards and magazines ads were our poetry and our art, but also our cash nexus.” [1] In North by Northwest, Hitchcock uses a medium which was often used for 1950's advertisement (film) to comment on advertisement and consumerism itself. But, as a product of the fifties, North by Northwest went through stages of advertisement to adhere to consumer desire and demand. This is exemplified in the various movie poster ads for North by Northwest that are geared to appeal to specific cultures and different interests.
