Separation From Middle Class Morality Roger also proves himself to be above consumerism through his detachment from middle class morality. Not only does Roger have no problem in relaying a “song” of falsities in order to attain profit; he also has no trouble in going against moral standards. Roger has no shame in stealing from others such as the car he takes after the crop duster attack and the two instances where he takes a taxi cab ride from others. Roger bases many of his interactions upon bribery as we see with his mother in Kaplan’s hotel. Roger sneaks his way onto the Twentieth Century Limited without a ticket and gains a free train ride to Chicago. He lacks respect for others which is brilliantly portrayed in the auction scene and he has a willingness to trespass into the hospital room of a young lady. Because he is a man above the society, Roger gains certain rights others do not, and he gets away with them.
