The altering shots of the car from different angles and Roger’s point of view shots makes the scene seem commercial-like because it is an extensive sequence showing the car’s ability to be handled in any type of dangerous situation. The backdrop provides a theatrical set for the sequence. With the incorporation of the sound from a 1960’s car commercial titled “The Wonderful New World of Fords,”[11] the scene actually works very well as an advertisement for the car itself. According to a DVD commentary by the film’s screen writer Ernest Lehman, the scenic background in the beginning shot of the Drunk Driving scene is actually a matt shot.[12]

The "Drunk Driving" sequence gains even more assertion for representing a car commercial when it is compared to an actual 1960 advertisement for the Corvair entitled "The Corvair in Action." (clip: Look at this baby go!)
