That Couple in the Mirror...

Other characters also fit into this series of mirrors and reflections.  Most notably, the two families at the center of this film contrast each other sharply.  In addition to literally mirroring each other at the dinner table in Morocco, each couple undergoes a similar transformation in the viewer’s perception.  The Drayton’s go from being a proper, polite and generally nice British couple with nothing to hide to being ruthless, kidnapping spies.  The McKenna’s, on the other hand, proceed from acting as a typical American family to being portrayed as integral parts in the desperate international intrigue surrounding their son’s kidnapping.  Both Jo and Lucy Drayton serve as mother figures for Hank, even while one holds him captive.  Ben and Mr. Drayton also reflect each other in their bungling and ineffective natures—Drayton fails to rightly “orchestrate” the assassination in addition to mishandling his final bargaining chip in Hank [9].
