Character Mirrors

Characters, also, serve as ready-made mirrors for each other. Each acts as a foil for his or her counterpart, bringing out both the best and worst of both characters. The most prominent character mirrors arise between Hank and his mother, Jo and Ben, Bernard and Ben, as well as the Draytons and McKennas as a whole. Here, Ben peers leeringly at the supine form of his sedated wife. Is he but a shadow of a man after this unnecessary act of suppression beguiled as benevolence?
